How to play the forward defensive stroke properly-note my head and hands position over the point of contact, the bat angle almost at 45 degrees keeping the ball down, the hips staying square, the front knee bent and the point of contact slightly in front of my left knee.

Jacque Kallis at point of delivery

I think this is a great picture of Jacque Kallis at the point of delivery.Key points to note:

-Weight is forward without over commiting-this allows him to get forward whilst being able to push off his front foot to get back equally well.
-perfect head position with eyes level
-feet not to wide
-shoulders relaxed
-knees slightly flexed
-his front foot shifts open which allows him to play straighter and through the on side more easily
-notice the way he has picked his bat up allowing for the "six" shape-very important to get this shape right
-bat face slightly open with toe pointing to first slip

Get this balanced set-up right with correctly picking the bat up and you will be a VERY good player!
